Mrs Beatrice Gregory Oakes

Mrs. Beatrice Gregory Oakes of Joyce Ct., passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington.

Beatrice was born November 15, 1930 to the late Louis Claybourn Gregory and Minola Williams Gregory and was married to the late Fred Thomas Oakes. Beatrice was born and raised in Caswell County and lived at Providence, NC where she went to school at Providence Elementary school and later went to Cobb High School where she graduated in 1950.

She met and married Fred Thomas Oakes in 1954 and moved to Burlington, NC. She worked in a hosiery mill for many companies and worked for Western Electric for two years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and helped with the special Olympics, Camp Green Leaves with handicapped children, American Red Cross for many years, and the Board of Elections for 30 years. She worked at the Hospice Flee Market for 25 years. She was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church and a member of Graham Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir and helped with Bible School. She also helped with the Franklin Graham Operation Christmas shoe boxes for children.

She is survived by one son, Barry Thomas Oakes and wife Sheila of Pinehurst, NC; grandchildren, Andy Allred and Emily Allred; special companion and significant other, James Norman Rackley, Jr. of the home; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Graham Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service in the church parlor. The committal service will be held immediately following the funeral service at Pine Hill Cemetery.
