Arthur Vernon Murray

Mr. A. V. Murray, Jr., 90, passed into glory on July 8, 2018 surrounded by his children. Our dad was a loving father and a kind friend to all who knew him. He was a man of patience and of few words with a wonderful grin. He loved the banjo and was a skilled craftsman.

Mr. Murray was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He worked many years in maintenance at J. P. Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Thaxton Murray; parents, Arthur “Dock” Murray and Nealie Rierson Vest Murray; brother, Curtis Vest; and sister, Opal Wicker.

Survivors include his children, Cynthia Tucker and husband Otis of Burlington, Steve Murray of Burlington, Linda Hysaw and husband Gary of Ozark, AL and Judy Gaither and husband Bobby of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The service will be conducted in the Chapel of the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. by Elder Nathan Gillispie, Elder Richard Kirby and Elder Jim Briscoe with the family receiving friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Alamance Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers at Hospice and also to Minnie with Home Instead.
