William Dwight Hopkins Jr.

The circle is now complete. Dwight, Jr. joined his parents, Dwight, Sr. and Era Hopkins, and his darling sister, Helen Ballard in the heavenly mansions on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Dwight, Jr. (Papa-as he was known to his family) retired from AT&T formerly Western Electric on the anniversary of his 30th year with the company, a day he looked forward to for many years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed continuing to build both big and small, fishing, hunting and caregiving for family members. Both hobbies and traits he passed on to his daughters and granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Mary Ann Hopkins. Also surviving are “first born” daughter, Audra, husband John and Hannah Spears of Burlington, NC and Whitney, Geoff, Ellie Grace and Tristan Liam (due January 6, 2018) Sutton of Caswell County, NC all of whom he dearly loved and who will miss him immensely. He was so proud of his daughters and their families and what they have accomplished. He is also survived by numerous cousins and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Alison Folwell with the family receiving friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the greatest tribute to Dwight, Jr. will be that you pay forward an act of kindness for a friend, family or stranger. #payitforwardforpapa
