Vance C. Vines

Vance C. Vines, 85, of Graham, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Born May 9, 1931, in Boone, North Carolina, to the late W.R. Vines and the late Edna Tester Vines, Vance graduated from Bethel High School and Appalachian State University. On March 3, 1954, he married Betty Winebarger Vines, and they enjoyed 63 loving years together.

Vance was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. After a 35-year career as a teacher and elementary education administrator, he enjoyed countless hours of woodworking, volunteering on mission trips, and traveling with Betty

Vance was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and a member of the Baptist Men.

In addition to his wife, Betty, of the home, Vance is survived by two daughters, Cindy Vines Bright and her husband, Mike, of Graham; Denise Vines Sharpe and her husband, Calvin, of Graham; two grandchildren, Susan Sharpe Meisenbach of Elon; Jacob Bright and wife Ashley of Augusta, Georgia; one great-grandson, Braeden of Augusta; a sister, Ruby Anderson of Boone; a sister-in-law, Joyce Vines of Boone, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Vance was preceded in death by four brothers, James Vines, Hal Vines, Thomas (Brownie) Vines, and John Vines.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 2, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Graham. Officiating will be the Rev. Travis Russell. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Graham.
