Mr. T. Bland Smith, 79, of Mebane passed away suddenly at Duke University Medical Center on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
A native of Edenton, NC, he was the husband of Peggy Webster Smith and the son of Theorodic Bland “T.B.” Smith, Sr. and Enola Nixon Smith, both deceased. Bland attended N. C. State University. He retired as an Industrial Engineer with R. J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem and was the owner of Coble Hardware in Burlington for 21 years. He enjoyed talking with customers at the hardware store and solving the World’s problems.
Bland loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed eating with his buddies, Millard and others at Wendy’s on Alamance Rd. He loved the outdoors and politics, especially FOX News. Bland was a great historian. He attended Swepsonville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter Katharine Walden of Charleston, SC; two sons, Theodoric Bland “Ted” Smith, III and Heidi of Myrtle Beach, SC and Christopher Smith and his wife, Roxy of Mint Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Ericca Smith, Megan Smith, Ashley Walden and Trey Bland Smith; and a great granddaughter, Katharine Reece Benton.
A funeral service will be held at Swepsonville United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Christi Dye. Burial will follow at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Church. Other times the family will be at the residence.
