Richard Allen Poe

Mr. Richard Allen Poe, 84, of Haw River, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.

Richard was a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School and Burlington Business College. He joined the Air Force, serving four years, and was stationed in Canada, Wyoming, Texas and Florida. He loved animals and was the owner of Poe’s Pet Supply Company. He traveled to Pet Shop customers from Ohio to Florida serving their pet needs and many times bringing home dogs, cats, birds or rabbits to give them a home. Richard loved watching Duke Basketball, NASCAR Racing, and old westerns with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Poe of 58 wonderful years, who has lost the love of her life. He is also survived by a daughter, Donna Poe Snotherly of Graham; son, Richard “Ricky” A. Poe, Jr. and wife Kara of Hurdle Mills, NC; three grandchildren, Kathryn Roney of Burlington, Brandon Snotherly of Graham and Chloe Poe of Jacksonville, NC; and one great-grandson, Easton Roney.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Violet Poe of Burlington and a sister, Betty Jean Poe Staley of Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, NC with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington. The family will receive guests at 426 Trollingwood Road, Haw River.
