Richard Glenn Hobby

Richard Glenn Hobby began his eternal walk with God on Friday, August 25, 2017.

Richard Glenn Hobby was born an only child to Glenn and Bessie Thompson Hobby on January 18, 1933. Richard was a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School in 1951 He met his sweetheart Barbara Borson Hobby, a.k.a. “Poopsie,” while working for Western Electric in Whippany, New Jersey. She was won over by him sticking his tongue out at her when they first met. It was truly love at first sight and on November 2, 1963 they were married.

Richard was a loving father to Kenneth Wade, Richard Eric and wife Regenia, and Bonnie and husband Kevin Justice. Richard was a loving grandfather to Michelle Hobby McPherson and husband Michael, Julia Hobby (Gage Gilland), Kaleb Justice, Megan Hobby, and Hannah Justice and step grandfather to Alex Maness. He was a wonderful great grandfather to Ethan and Justin McPherson and Emersyn Gilland.

Richard was a lifetime member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, and often attended The Lambs Chapel. He served in many official capacities at Mt Hermon including treasurer and pastor parish relations committee chairman. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Men.   Richard was a car enthusiast and a pilot, and often got the two confused when behind the wheel. Richard retired from AT&T in 1989.

Richard had a child-like spirit and by his faith in God he never allowed the worries of the world to impact his relationships with people. That is unless he were behind you on the highway or at a stop light that had recently turned green.

The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. by Pastor Brian Biggers with the family receiving friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Other times the family will be at the residence.
