Mrs. Norma Virginia Taylor Dixon McGuire, 96, of Oak Creek Retirement Community, Burlington passed away at Edgewood Place on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:10 p.m.

Born February 7, 1921 in Bartow, FL, she was the wife of the late Gaines Erwin Dixon and the late Ernest John McGuire and the daughter of Harry Gordon Taylor and Jennie Evans Weir Taylor, both deceased.

Norma was active in many organizations: Colonial Dames XVII Century where she served as National Corresponding Secretary, Past President of the National Officers Club, National Chairman of Tellers, Printing & Publications Chairman, Roster of Officers Book, Co-Chairman of Conference Decorations, and Adviser to Tellers Committee. She was Florida State President and held all offices in her local chapter numerous times. In DAR, she was State Americanism Chairman. In Eastern Star, she was Past Matron and Past Chairman of the State Library Fund. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Charter member of the Descendants of Early Quakers, and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi.

Norma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader, addicted to genealogy and always had a jigsaw puzzle going. She will be remembered for the many friends she has made, the pies she has baked, and the help she has given to so many people through the years.

Survivors include three step-children, Michael E. McGuire (Shirley) of Burlington, NC, Patricia D. McDevitt of Batavia, OH and Kathleen S. Clark (Tim) of Cutler Bay, FL; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gaines “Hap” Erwin Dixon, Jr. and grandson, Christopher Rehfield.

There will be a reception to honor Norma at the Oak Creek Retirement Community dining hall, 343 Baldwin Road, Burlington, NC on Sunday, October 15th from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m. Burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Norma T. McGuire Scholarship, C/O Carol Sulton, Treasurer, 2712 Ravella Way, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. Checks should be made payable to: FSCDXVIIC. This scholarship was started in Norma’s honor when she was Florida State President of Colonial Dames.
