We were so sorry to hear about Mary's death. We were able to see her a few weeks ago when we attended a funeral at First UMC of Elon. Mary was such a kind hearted, loving person with a servant's heart. She had the gift of hospitality. Not only was she an outstanding cook and baker, but made everyone who came to her home feel welcome. She was loved and appreciated by so many people including all of her church family and will be greatly missed. We are lifting all of you in prayer. May God grant you his comfort and peace,
Terry and Jeannie Huffines

Dear Donna,
I am so sorry to learn about the loss of your dear Mother. I am Karen Hall's sister, Martha. I met you and your Mother when you came to visit Karen at Edgewood. She was a very caring person and I' m sure you have many precious memories!

I am very saddened to learn of Mary's passing. While I did not know her particularly well, I along with many others knew her to be one of the kindest, sweetest and most generous ladies. I would visit Mary in her home from time to time---she without fail always welcomed me with the warmest smile. I enjoyed sharing "treats" with her but no doubt with the chocolate pies I really got the better deal. I have never tasted a better pie ! We all, I think, would like to feel over time we make a difference--Mary Surber has certainly made a Big Big difference to many people. We don't always remember past words spoken but we do tend to remember how a person makes us feel. My times with Mary were invariably quite positive and uplifting---she always made me feel very special. Mary was part of that greatest American generation. I am so fortunate and clearly blessed that she came my way.

We are so sorry to hear of Mary's passing, but take comfort in knowing she is resting in the arms of our Lord Jesus. Mary will always be remembered for her warm smile, gentle spirit and delicious baked goods she generously shared. Praying for her family during this difficult time of mourning.
