Mrs. Mary Alice Sumner Cook, 86, of Graham, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at her residence.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Thomas Franklin Cook and daughter of the late Herbert Sumner and Elizabeth Taylor Sumner. She retired from the Alamance County Department of Social Services and was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Ladies Fellowship of the Church. Mary was a faithful servant of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling, and being surrounded by family and friends.
Surviving are a son, Winford Brown (Shelia) of Snow Camp; a sister, Brenda Allred of Haw River; four grandchildren, Carmen Hinton (Brian) of Burlington, Stephanie Casey of Graham, Carla Sibrian (Jonathan) of Graham and Whitney Brown of Elon; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Eric of Graham. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Grant Sumner, Gerald Sumner, Grady Sumner, Conrad Sumner, Jeffrey Sumner and Gordon Sumner; and three sisters, Beverly Brown, Sally Ford, and Diana Kay Laughlin.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, April 19, 2024, at Staley Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Staley officiating. The burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the Church. There will be a meal following the burial at Staley Memorial Baptist Church.
