Landy H. Patton

Landy H. Patton, 75, of Burlington died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Mildred Hendricks Patton, who survives and the late Vance Harland Patton who was killed in France during World War II on December 25, 1944. His father was in the infantry assigned to the anti-tank division.

Mr. Patton was a graduate of Gibsonville High School in 1960. He was a machinist and tool maker for Rockwell in Greensboro. In 1969, he went to the City of Burlington as Lake Warden over City Lake, Lake Cammack and Lake Mackintosh for the next 28 ½ years. He assisted with the design of Lake Mackintosh Park and Marina. Upon retiring at age 55, he was a volunteer for the N. C. State Parks at Kerr Lake and Henderson Point for the next 12 years as a campground host. Mr. Patton joined campus security for Elon University and drove a tram and bus for Elon University in the winter. He resigned from Elon in 2008. He was considered a master expert marksman with a pistol, rifle and shotgun.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Peggy B. Patton of the home; son, Vance Harland Patton (Megan) of Burlington; daughter, Laura C. Shepanski (Mike) of Burlington; mother, Mildred Hendricks Patton of Gibsonville; three grandchildren, Lindsey Shepanski Dreher (Daniel), Katie Shepanski and Maddie Shepanski; one great grandson, Nolan Dreher; and a cousin, Patricia Patton. He also leaves behind his most faithful companion and friend, Missy.

The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Gibsonville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

A special thanks is extended to nurses Crystal, Sydney, Toni, and everyone at Hospice. Additionally, thanks to Annette and Andrew Gentry.

Landy loved life and is going to miss it. It was a good ride!
