Joseph Baynes “J.B.” Ashley

Mr. Joseph Baynes “J.B.” Ashley, 77, of Mebane died at his residence on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. following 12 years of declining health.

A native of Person County, he was the husband of 52 years to Nancy Bright Ashley, who survives and the son of Graham Ashley and Helen Rogers Ashley, both deceased. Mr. Ashley was one of the original employees who retired with over 31 years of service from Mebane Packaging. He was an avid Duke fan and loved to walk for exercise. J. B. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Haw River.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Michelle Ashley Thomas of Graham and Amy Ashley Pierce and husband Kevin of Whitsett; two grandsons, Brandon Michael Thomas of Durham and Jordan Bryan Thomas and wife Crystal of Elon; great-grandson, Chase Bryan Thomas; two brothers, Alfred Ashley of Reidsville and Donald Ashley of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Ashley and Cleon Ashley.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Walter Jones and Pastor Jonathan Jenkins with the family receiving friends from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Other times they will be at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC  27215.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, the Alamance House and special caregivers, Veronia Oxendine and Rubie Oxendine for the support and care given to J.B.
