John Arthur Bulla

A native of Alamance County, born February 3, 1919, “Greatest Generation” member John A. Bulla, Jr. was called Home on September 18, 2017 at the age of 98. He was a devoted husband to Hyacinth Bulla for 66 years and the loving father of one daughter, Peggy.
Mr. Bulla was a faithful member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church since the age of 10 where he served as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder. He also taped each Sunday sermon to be shared with church shut-ins and took pictures of each church event.
Known for being a “mechanical genius”, he was employed at several local businesses including Mays Hosiery, Seven-Points, Western Electric, and UNC-Chapel Hill. Although retired, he was often called upon to teach Machining at Alamance Community College.
A WWII veteran, he served nearly four years in the U.S. Army Pacific/Asianic Theater, 24th Infantry. He founded Buckhorn Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the NRA and Telephone Associates of America – now known as Pioneer Champions. Mr. Bulla was also a member of the Burlington Civitan Club and the Amateur Radio Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Bulla, Sr.; mother, Blanche Hester Bulla King; step-father, John P. King; brother, Jake King; sister, Peggy Holt; and beloved wife, Hyacinth Bulla. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Bulla.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. by Dr. Ben Williams and Rev. Ed Moschler with the family receiving friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
