Harvey Elba Buckmaster

Harvey E. Buckmaster died peacefully on Wednesday June 14, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC.  Harvey, affectionately known as Heb, was born January 21, 1947 in Sarasota, Florida.  He was the husband of Barbara M. Buckmaster, who survives, for 47 years.  His parents, both deceased, were Harvey W. Buckmaster and Margaret S. Wood.  He leaves behind three children, Matthew T. Buckmaster (Ana), Gibsonville, NC, Douglas D. Buckmaster (Grace), Dallas, TX and Shannon E. Buckmaster, Columbia Falls, MT and four grandchildren, Zoey, Maddie, Penelope and Mila. He is also survived by brothers William Buckmaster, Dale Buckmaster, Duane Buckmaster and sisters Karen Bradley, Luanne Buckmaster; many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Tigger. 
 
Harvey graduated from Riverview High School, Sarasota, Florida and the University of South Florida.  He was an Air Force veteran and served in Vietnam.  He was an accountant and spent his career as a community banker (Chief Financial Officer) in Florida.  He was an incredibly supportive father who was active in his community in Deltona, FL as President of the Chamber Commerce, youth sports coach, band booster president, boy scout leader, and many other community affairs.   
 
He retired and moved to Gibsonville, NC in 2011.  He was a member of Springwood Presbyterian Church and VFW Post 2972, Gibsonville, NC. He was a good and honorable man who loved his God, his family and country.  He loved gardening, golf, cheering for the USF Bulls, and being called Grampy by his granddaughters.  
 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Springwood Presbyterian Church, 1422 Springwood Church Road, Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
