Edward T. O'Reilly

Edward T. O’Reilly, 89, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

A native of Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, Mr. O’Reilly was the husband of Pollyanna White O’Reilly and the son of the late Edward J. O’Reilly and the late Clara Lachowicz O’Reilly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margie Boyles O’Reilly.

Mr. O’Reilly was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his retirement from AT&T/Lucent Technologies as a Senior Contract Specialist, Mr. O’Reilly began his second career, which he described as “a professional volunteer.” His many contributions to the community include: 20 years of coordinating the Lifeline Emergency Response System at ARMC and volunteering with the following organizations: American Red Cross, Skilled Nursing/Edgewood Place, Burlington Assembly Caring Kitchen, Hospice Flea Market, American Cancer Society, and Shamrock Parent Child Golf Tournament. All who knew Mr. O’Reilly felt his love and respect as he showed no partiality; all people were equal in his eyes.

Mr. O’Reilly was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he served as a Minister of Hospitality. He was also active at First Baptist Church, Burlington, where he was proud to be the only gentleman member of the Mary Martha Bible Study Class. Mr. O’Reilly was an active member of AT&T Pioneers and YMCA Young at Heart Class.

In addition to his wife Polly, of the home, Mr. O’Reilly is survived by his daughter, Brenda Rose O’Reilly of Raleigh; his son, Gregory Keith O’Reilly of Oak Ridge; grandson Adam Reilly Jones of Raleigh; his sister, Ramona T. Walsh of Manville, NJ; two brothers, Robert P. O’Reilly (wife Gert) of Somerville, NJ and James R. O’Reilly (wife Rose) of Manville, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 10, from 10:00 until 11:45 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 noon in the Blessed Sacrament sanctuary. Officiating will be Rev. Briant Cullinane, OFM Conv. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1620 Hanford Road, Graham NC 27253; First Baptist Church, PO Box 1187, Burlington NC 27216; or Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington N.C. 27215.
