Mrs. Edna Jones Ivey

April 7, 1932 ~ May 11, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Mrs. Edna Jones Ivey, 85, of Graham passed away at Edgewood Place in Burlington on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Hadley Holt Ivey, Sr. and the daughter of Charles N. Jones and Emma Jones, both deceased. Mrs. Ivey retired as a bookkeeper and secretary with Burlington Roofing Company. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Graham where she was a member of the choir, the Starfish ministry and the property committee. Mrs. Ivey was born and raised in Graham and was proud to be a “Graham Square Miler”.

In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include a daughter, Terry Ivey Vaughan and her husband, Charles of Raleigh; a son, Hadley Holt Ivey, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Anderson, SC; three granddaughters, Sydney Holt Vaughan, Emily Jo Vaughan and Natalie Ann Ivey; and a sister, Helen Snotherly and her husband, Jack of Graham.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Ivey was preceded in death by a sister, Nell Chaney.

There are four attributes that Edna’s family would like her to be remembered by: She was an unselfish, kind and compassionate woman who unconditionally shared her love for others. If you knew our mother, you knew she deeply cared for you and would do anything she could to make your day easier and brighter; her strength was like none other. Through multiple serious illnesses, she battled each one with such grace and fortitude. Through her faith, she never worried nor was afraid. We are forever grateful for her having passed that strength on to us; love for her family was the most prized possession of her life. The marriage and union between her and her husband, Hadley of 65 years, was a match made in Heaven. They left us with an exemplary testament of what marriage should be. She adored her two children, Holt and Terry, and would have sacrificed anything for them. She also adored her daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Kim and Chuck. The minute she met them, she claimed them as her own. She absolutely adored her three grandbabies, Sydney, Emily and Natalie. She would always tell them that she loved them so much “you can’t count it”. She loved all of the Ivey and Jones’ extended family, her church family and friends; lastly, Edna was not the least bit afraid of death. Through her faith, she prepared her family well for this special moment. She gave us strength and was a true example of what it meant to be a “child-like” follower of Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Ivey was a confident, strong willed woman who was an inspiration to all who knew her. While she will be missed, there is no greater sense of peace and comfort than knowing she is now with her maker.

The funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Graham on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Travis Russell and Dr. Paul Jagoe. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday at the Ministry Center of the First Baptist Church of Graham from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Graham, 224 N. Main St., Graham, NC 27253.
