Byron Mabry Russell

Mr. Byron M. Russell, 89, of Homeplace of Burlington and Liberty Commons, died on August 2, 2017, following a year of declining health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Anna Bonds Andrews Russell and the son of Edward Lee Russell and Isabelle Mabry Russell, both deceased.

Mr. Russell was a 1949 graduate of Wake Forest College. He served on active duty in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1952 and was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1956.

Mr. Russell retired from Duke University Medical Center in 1991 where he was Business Manager of the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program for 25 years. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Burlington, NC.

Survivors include a niece, Cynthia Lipson (Dr. Steve) of Louisville, KY and cousins, Anne Russell of New York, NY, Ann Vaden of Greensboro, NC, and Janice Cottle (Ray) of Graham, NC.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Russell Johnson of Smyrna, GA and a brother, Edward L. Russell of Louisville, KY.

The funeral will be conducted at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, August 5, 2017 by the Rev. Phillip Myers. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
