Betty Hough Sullivan

Betty Hough Sullivan, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died February 14, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. She was 87.

Betty was born in Guilford County on February 15, 1930 to Edwin Beckwith and Pauline Hyatt Hough. Betty married Frank Hunter Sullivan on December 31, 1950. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Betty graduated from Ansonville High School in 1948. She attended Wingate College and Elon College. She retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. as Sales Promotion Manager in 1990 with 30 years of service.

Betty was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church since 1960. She served her community through her church, Meals on Wheels and being a good neighbor. While an active retiree, Betty enjoyed being with her family. Betty glorified God everyday through her love of nature, gardening, growing flowers and compassion.

Betty is survived by her husband, Frank Sullivan, of 67 years; her daughter, Pamela Gay (Dr. Roy Douthitt), and son, Frank Hunter Sullivan, Jr. (Jennie). Also left to cherish her memory are two grandchildren, Charles Hunter Douthitt (Holly) of Chapel Hill and Brianna Douthitt Smith (Sean) of Jacksonville, Florida; and two great-grandchildren, Ellery Caroline Douthitt and Audrey Catherine Douthitt. Also surviving are her sisters, Nancy H. Lee (Bobby), Nan H. Rorie (Jerry); special niece, Patricia Smith (Rod); and sister-in-law, Louise Hough.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Bell Hough and two sisters, Margaret H. Lanier and Sara H. Fulk.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM with the family receiving friends immediately following the service. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ansonville, NC at a later date.
