Jean Scott Gunn

Jean Scott Gunn, 88, of Saddle Club Villas, Burlington, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017. A native of Forsyth County, she was the wife of the late Richard W. Gunn Sr. and daughter of the late Louie Beroth Scott and John Conrad Scott and the sister of the late Connie S. Sherrill. 

She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College. She spent her career as a P.E. teacher at Williams High School where she taught for over 30 years. Every young lady that came through Williams was touched by her willingness to invest not only in their athletic skills, but also in their personal growth. She was beloved for her smiling face, her witty sense of humor, her tenacious spirit and her genuine self-respect. She was a true role model for so many - her students, her family and her friends. 

Jean loved her family first, but second to that she loved Carolina basketball, her place at Litchfield, her Saddle Club condo, her Moravian traditions and her many friends.

Survivors include her son, Mr. Richard W. “Rick” Gunn Jr. and wife Gayle, daughter Mrs. Lisa Gunn Beasley and husband Lyle of Nashville TN; grandchildren Scott Gunn, Daniel Gunn and wife Rebecca, Chandler Beasley and Will Beasley.

Following a family graveside service, a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday, Nov. 15th at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington NC by Dr. Ronald Shive with a reception to follow in Calvin Hall. At other times the family will be at the residence of Rick and Gayle Gunn.


Memorials may be made to either First Presbyterian Church (508 West Davis Street, Burlington NC 27215) or Historic Bethabara Park, a Moravian settlement founded by her ancestors (2147 Bethabara Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 - www.historicbethabara.org).
