Annie H. Howell

 Mrs. Annie H. Howell, 79, of Graham died at Duke University Medical Center on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:45 a.m.

Mrs. Howell was born in Johnston County, NC on March 14, 1938 to Preston Ulas Norris and Mertha Barefoot Norris, both deceased. She was married to John Vance Hall for 36 years who died April 1, 1995.

Annie moved to Durham with her parents at the age of 10 years old. She attended Oak Grove School and graduated from Durham Tech Community College. She started working at Erwin Mills in 1960 and worked for 33 years throughout its acquisition and changes. In 1972, she graduated from Atlantic Beauty College. She worked as a cosmetologist at Sue’s Beauty Shop in Durham for about ten years. Upon the death of Vance, she met and married Eugene Howell and moved to Graham. She worked at Westpoint Stevens as a Quality Control Auditor and retired from there at the age of 65 in 2003. Mrs. Howell was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she was a choir member and Sunday School teacher.

In addition to her husband, Eugene of the home, survivors include a daughter, Angela Gay Hall Barbour and husband Steve of Haw River; two grandsons, Brandon Lane Barbour and Steven Andrew “Drew” Barbour, both of Gibsonville; and one step-son, Elwyn Vance Hall of Jacksonville, FL.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by five brothers, Preston Norris, Willie Earl Norris, Junious Norris, Randolph Norris and Daniel Pee Wee Norris and one sister, Addie Pearl Norris Phillips.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12 noon.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 12:00 noon by Pastor Rick Finley. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Road, Durham, NC at 3:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Klein, Amber and staff at Orange Family Medical and also Dr. Carlos Decastro and his team at Duke Cancer Hematological Center for the care and support given to Mrs. Howell.
