Anna Marie Young Griffin

Anna Marie Young Griffin, 97, a resident of the Twin Lakes Community, died on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Coble Creek Healthcare Center at Twin Lakes Community.
 
Born Feb. 11, 1920 in Charleston, West Virginia, she was the widow of Rev. Dale Francis Griffin and the daughter of Walter E. Young and Anna Elizabeth Smith Young, both deceased.  She was a graduate of Morris Harvey College. Marie married Dale in 1943 and moved to Connecticut in 1948 where they lived for almost 30 years. From Connecticut they moved to Tennessee before retiring in Burlington, NC where they were residents of Twin Lakes Community for over 20 years. Marie and Dale enjoyed traveling and toured extensively the US before touring every continent. They were among the first to visit China the year it became open for tourism. Besides her husband of over 60 years she was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Young; two sisters, Margaret Meeker and Dorothy Woodard.
 
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Griffin of Canton, Georgia; and one granddaughter, Jessica Griffin of Canton, Georgia; her nephew, John Meeker of Chapel Hill, NC, another nephew, Bill Woodard of Concord, MA and a niece, Martha McGettigan of Swanton, MD.  
 
A private service will be held for the family.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
