April 6, 1924 ~ October 12, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mrs. Alice Snipes Holt, 93, of Graham died at her residence on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 1:00 a.m. following a brief illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Billie Eugene Holt and the daughter of Lon R. Snipes and Onie Foushee Snipes, both deceased. She was a lifelong member of Swepsonville Baptist Church where she was the first woman to be a Deacon of the church, a Sunday School teacher, circle leader, choir member, Vacation Bible School Director, Building Committee member, church clerk and prayer warrior. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Alamance County at its inception until her 90th year. Alice was always there to help those in need but would never want the recognition. She was an artist and avid reader.

Mrs. Holt was a cheerleader for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She prepared Sunday lunch for 30 or more family members each week. She kept daily journals all her life of her family and herself.

Survivors include four daughters, Susan Holt, Jenny Holt, Mary Herndon and husband Louis and Pam Hill and husband Ronnie, all of Graham; seven grandchildren, Holly Herring, Carmen Allen, Kristen Carr, Jonathan Hill, Michael Patrick Lynch, Brian Hill and Holt Herndon; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Avenell S. Cashwell and two brothers, Lyman Ralph Snipes and James Vance Snipes.

The funeral service will be conducted at Swepsonville Baptist Church on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. by Pastor Steve McGowan with the family receiving friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Other times the family will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swepsonville Baptist Church, 2754 Darrell Newton Drive, Graham, NC 27253.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their kindness and wonderful care during her recent illness. They would especially like to thank Mitzi, Sandi, Joanna, Jeanette, Debbie, Holly and Kim.
