Mr. Winfred C. “Ook” Harper, 84, of Burlington died at his residence on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 1:20 a.m.

A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of the late Frances Brooks Harper and the son of Arlie Lee Harper and Adgie Robbins Harper, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and retired Chairman of the Board of the Winfred C. Harper Agency, Inc., which he founded in 1949. He was an avid gardener and golfer. Mr. Harper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington.

Survivors include two sons, Steven B. Harper and wife Mikki and James D. Harper, both of Burlington; one daughter, Sharon H. Spears and husband Walter of Burlington; one sister, Helen Harper Brown of Burlington; one step-sister, Peggy D. Kernodle of Elon; and four grandchildren, Steven B. Harper, Jr. of New York, NY, Grayson J. Harper of Nashville, TN, Jeremy F. Harper and Wyatt J. Harper, both of Burlington.

The funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Burlington on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. by Dr. Terry Peele. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Winfred C. Harper Agency.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m.
